Algorithms for Labeling Points in Dynamic Maps
Over the last decade, dynamic maps have become more and more popular, e.g., for route planning, in car navigation systems, or on mobile devices. A dynamic map ideally supports continuous interactive movement through zooming, panning, and rotation of the map view. One of the challenges in designing dynamic maps is the labeling problem, i.e., when and where to display names or descriptions of features in the map without overlap and without introducing undesired visual effects during the animation of the map movement. We present algorithms for several point labeling problems in dynamic maps.
