Project Description
With the digitalization in many cities and the trend to Smart Cities – and Open Data Cities as their extension – adaptation of new technologies like Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN) or 5G is necessary. For that reason, the university of Würzburg started a cooperation with the Würzburger Versorgungs- und Verkehrs-GmbH (WVV) to set up and evaluate a prototype of a sensor network with Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN). The goal of this project is to receive valuable information about the deployment of a sensor network with different sensor types and LoRaWAN, gateway deployment and coverage, and scalability based on the number of sensors. As a result, the optimal adjustment of the network for the city of Würzburg is intended.
