Research Interests

The research interests of the mobile robot group are related to teleoperation of mobile robots, autonomous functions, formation, drive assistance systems and sensor data processing. Several projects are running at the moment focusing on one or more of these topics. Furthermore a few students with scholarship are doing their PhD in this field of area.

A large number of different mobile robots are available at the chair and distributed to different project. The Indoor MERLIN is mainly used for swarm and formation applications. For a harsh outdoor environment a Outdoor MERLIN was developed in cooperation with industry partners. Localization and navigation algorithms were developed on the Outdoor MERLIN. Addiationally both rovers, the Outdoor MERLIN as well as the Indoor MERLIN, were used as sensor test plattform. Further mobile robots like Pioneers, wheelchairs or a pallet carrier were used in different projects. The newest mobile robot is a mobility scooter, which was enhanced with a drive assistance system and autonomous functions to support the mobility of elderly people.
