FAQ

Students who are unable to finance their studies independently for financial reasons and who meet certain requirements can apply for a scholarship. There are various scholarship options such as DAAD and BAYHOST for international students. For further information, please visit the scholarship webpage.

The bachelor's thesis is a mandatory research work in which students are expected to demonstrate their ability to to research and write on a topic in their discipline within a given time frame and applying appropriate methods.

All listed requirements ​​​​​are mandatory and must be fulfilled at the time of application.

Next to a theoretical foundation of past and current AI algorithms, as well developments in virtual reality, XtAI includes lectures introducing practical applications and combinations of the two reasearch areas. Students are able to chose lectures from a multitude of application areas such as approaches for 3D Point Cloud Processing, AI in Bioinformatics, and Interactive Computer Graphics.

The JMU computer science building contains two computer-pools with Linux and Windows operation systems that are freely accessible for all students.

While the entire course will be held in English, basic knowledge of the German language at least on level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) must be proven by the end of the first year of study at the latest. To help students to achieve this requirement, the language centre of JMU is offering courses on German as a foreign language for all students.

Living expenses in Würzburg, including rent, food and the ca. 140€ for the semester fee can be estimated at around 800-1200€/month.

The semester fee of ca. 140€ includes free public transportation within the city and its close suroundings.

The “Studierendenwerk” of JMU runs several canteens across Würzburg. The closest Canteen, located 800m from the Computer Science building is the Mensateria where students can choose a variety of prepared hot meals for reduced student prices of 3-5€ every noon during the week. The canteen consistently offers vegetarian and vegan meals, as well as providing the students with dinner opportunities throughout the week.
