The Data Science Chair (computer science institute JMU) is a highly interdisciplinary group of researchers led by Prof. Andreas Hotho and member of CAIDAS. We are active in data science and machine learning research with focus on deep learning and applications in multiple domains.

"Assessing the State of the Art in Scene Segmentation" accepted at NAACL 25

Our paper "Assessing the State of the Art in Scene Segmentation" has been accepted at the 2025 Annual Conference of the Nations of the Americas Chapter of the ACL. In our paper, we assess the state of the art for scene segmentation for german novels and compare BERT-based to current Llama models.
